In our continuing efforts to achieve BS8901 certification and to encourage all our staff to help Aztec on the path to being carbon neutral, we have introduced a new scheme to get everyone on their bikes!
On Friday 26th June 2009, the company has organised a Bike To Work Breakfast. Anyone who cycles to work on that day will receive a sumptuous breakfast provided by the company. Over a third of Aztec's entire workforce has signed up to take part.
"The idea behind this is to encourage all our staff to try cycling to work" comments Aztec's MD, John Robson. "Obviously the breakfast is a very small token but it should be a lot of fun, and I'm enormously encouraged by how many people have agreed to take part. I genuinely hope that they will see that cycling to work is safe, healthy and great for the environment and continue to do so at least over the summer months."
The company has also recently launched other cycling initiatives. These include signing up to the Government's Bike to Work Scheme whereby employees can “purchase” a bike plus accessories via the company and achieve a huge saving. This is done by repaying the company over 12 months from their gross pre-tax salary, thus saving the tax, the NI and the VAT. In addition to this, we are about to install new bike racks for staff to park their cycles.
Aztec’s Operations Director, Steve Colesell, said “I’m really proud of everything we’re doing and I‘m confident that we will soon have everything in place to achieve BS8901 certification. I’m really looking forward to the Bike To Work Breakfast, although I have to admit the journey home is unlikely to be as pleasant on the body as the journey into work.”
